A wonderful abstract piece featuring swooping strands of green on an intricately detailed background of red, pink and black.  This piece was painted live 11 September 2009 at the Trinumeral Festival to the sounds of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Bela Fleck + Zakir Hussein + Edgar Meyer (the first show) and the Glitch Mob.

Since November of 2007, Michael has painted at concerts in a legendary range of situations, from basement clubs to the deep Nevada desert to NASA's Ames Research Center – both onstage and off, and alongside internationally renowned visionary artists Alex & Allyson Grey, Mark Henson, Kris D, J Garcia, Oliver Vernon, Andrew Jones, Amanda Sage, Xavi, and Mars-1.  Michael’s improvised live paintings are hand-illustrated with pens (and without computers or measuring tools) during concerts.  Each painting grows according to an evolving visual genome, translated from the throb of the house and the crowd into cross-sections of fireworks and undersea faeries, closed-eye tessellations and luminous fossils…vivid scenes of unabashed intensity, verdant and exultant imagery written in the natural language of dreams. 

Live painter, essayist, performing songwriter, and evolutionary biologist Michael Garfield is on a mission to demonstrate that everything is equally art, science, and spiritual practice.

Net proceeds of the sale of Michael Garfield's work goes to MAPS - the multidisciplinary association for psychedelic studies.  MAPS has been supporting psychedelic and medical marijuana research since 1986 by sponsoring clinical trials to assist in developing MDMA, other psychedelics and marijuana into future prescription medicines.
